Unsui Temple – Clouds and Water

The Unsui Temple was founded in Pesaro on February 16, 2022, as a Zen Meditation Group, thanks to the commitment of Zen monk Stefan Taigen Vanzolini, Dharma teacher Myoen Raja, and the passionate support of some local practitioners.

In just a few years, the group has become a vibrant and stable community, a true Sangha, a point of reference for those who wish to approach the practice of Zen and participate in the cultural and spiritual activities promoted by the Temple or supported in the city.

In 2024, the Temple was officially inaugurated in its new location at via Montegrappa 7/1 in Pesaro, with the Kaitan Hōyō Ceremony – Opening of the Buddha's Eye, in the presence of master Tetsugen Serra, spiritual guide of the Il Cerchio Temples , and Dharma teacher Koren Tetsuko Montemurro.

Temple Activities

• Zazen Meditation weekly and intensive retreats
• Study seminars, conferences, exhibitions and workshops
• Collaborations with universities, schools, museums and cultural associations of the territory

During the summer, the Temple also offers walking meditations and outdoor practices , to encourage contact with nature and the breath of the present moment.

The meaning of the name “Unsui”

The name Unsui (雲水) is made up of two Japanese ideograms:

• A ((I.e.): nuvola
• Sui (Wed): water

In the language of the Zen tradition, Unsui literally means clouds and water , and recalls the lightness, freedom and adaptability of spiritual practice.

In a deeper sense, Unsui is also the traditional name given to monks and nuns in training in the Soto Zen school: wandering beings, who live simply, in harmony with the flow of life , without attachments, like clouds in the sky and flowing water.

The UnSui Temple is one of the five Temples associated with the Ensoji Zen Monastery - The Circle under the spiritual guidance of master Tetsugen Serra.
